Results from the Herstmonceux Facility |
The
NERC Space Geodesy Facility is at the forefront of the technique of
Satellite
Laser Ranging. It is able to remain so by carrying out a continuous
programme
of improvement and by monitoring a large number of system parameters.
Much
of this work is novel, given the philosophy to work strictly at a
return
level close to single photons. This on-going work is reported at
international conferences and workshops, and
published in various proceedings.
Facility staff also manage two geodetic-quality GNSS receivers; an Ashtech Z12 receiver and an Ashtech Z18 joint GPS/GLONASS receiver. The quality of the data obtained by these receivers is monitored daily. Facility staff also carry out analyses and research using principally SLR data from the global network in collaborative programmes to determine precise orbits, accurate tracking station coordinates, laser range data quality and systematic differences between GNSS and SLR reference frames. These pages, which are under development, will be used to advertise all of this work and to solicit discussion and comment from the wider community.
