The laser pulses are generated at a rate of 13Hz in an
environmentally-controlled room
within the station building. The pulses are transmitted to the
beam-expanding optics mounted alongside the main telescope via a
series of five optically-flat, coated mirrors.
The laser is fired by a dye cell at one end of the cavity which
has to be monitored to keep the optimum dye strength for high
energy and highly stable laser pulses.
