The camera system comprises an intensified CCD camera that views the sky through a 20cm
Celestron telescope. The signal from the camera can be recorded on video and viewed by
the observer, enabling sunlit satellites and stars as faint as about magnitude 10 to be
seen clearly.
This is an important aid to acquisition of satellites whose orbits are poorly known and
also allows us to record directional information whilst the system is tracking.
An example of an image recorded by the system is shown here; it is an image of the
International Space Station (bright object) along with two star trails (faint streaks),
that were caused by the motion of the telescope whilst tracking the ISS.
